The West Australian Branch is an official part of the Boer Goat Breeders Association of Australia (Inc), and has been active in promoting Boer Goats in Western Australia since 1997. WA branch members organize events including field days, attend shows and sell Animals for meat and breeding both in Australia and Internationally. Our best animals have been recognized by international and interstate judges to be as good as anywhere else in Australia, and in WA we have a diverse range of genetics brought in by active studs to keep up the quality of animals.
WA has a strong commercial goat section with goat meat selling well both for the local and export market, and there is a high demand for crossbred does for overseas breeding programs.
The Advantage of the superior meat production in the Boer Goat can be seen where pastoral breeding programs use the bucks to crossbred with rangeland does, producing a much faster growing carcase. These animals reach slaughter weight in significantly shorter time, as well as having a higher dressing percentage than any other goat breed. This represents a substantial cost benefit and increased production efficiency in meat goat herds, proving the Boer Goat to be the superior meat goat breed.
